Meisen-style patterns for Kimono costumes flourished around 1920 and were initially influenced by Art Nouveau themes. Later however, the influence of Art Deco and American Deco – following the end of World War II – were also of great importance for these designs which were typified by their bold use of abstract patterns and colour. This book collects more than 200 examples of patterns produced predominantly in the 1950s and 60s – the last golden age of the Meisen style.
