From the beginning of the 19th century into the 1930s, the postcard was a tool for mass communication. In part, as a result of these postcards, the rest of the world was made aware about the land of Argentina. The themes of such postcards were widely diverse, though they generally fell in two different categories: romantic and national. In the national variant, postcards reflected landscapes and cities, cloudless skies, feathered Indians and rustic gauchos. This collection of postcards taken from this period, and accompanied by several essays, provides a unique insight into a period that was in some respects defining for an emerging nation.
