Invited by leisure and hospitality chain Belmond to create a photography book devoted to Maroma, in Mexico, Jack Davison stayed at the Riviera Maya hotel to explore its singular atmosphere. His attention extends as much to the architecture as to its most elusive details: plays of light and shadow, surfaces, silhouettes, and traces of presence. Alternating portraits, fragments of objects, and closely cropped views, Davison assembles a body of work that shifts the conventional perception of Maroma. The project is part of Belmond’s limited-edition book series, which asks contemporary photographers to move beyond mere representation of places and offer an artistic and singular vision.
