‘Mirror Mirror’ is a project by Swiss photographer and visual artist Léo Paschoud that explores our relationship to images, reflection, and involuntary staging through a collection of photographs sourced from second-hand selling platforms. The artist’s protocol is simple: contact sellers and ask them for an image of the mirror they are offering for sale. This seemingly innocuous request, however, introduces a constraint: to produce an image of the mirror while avoiding, as much as possible, any reflection in the glass. Sellers then develop strategies of avoidance – sometimes skilful, sometimes absurd, and often marked by either ingenuity or awkwardness.
