‘System User Manual’ is both a type specimen and a graphic design manual. The first part of the publication presents the history of the System typeface, a contemporary reinterpretation by the Lausanne-based graphic design studio Eurostandard of the signage typeface used across Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS) stations between 1980 and 2014. The second part presents the principles, templates, and millimetre-based format grids that inform Eurostandard’s daily work, including their greatest common divisor (gcd) methodology. Printed in five PMS colours, the book documents System as both a typeface and a working tool.
