'Suter + Suter' is the first comprehensive publication on one of the most important Swiss architectural planning offices of the post-war period. Although individual buildings such as the Lonza high-rise in Basel or the Sulzer high-rise in Winterthur have achieved iconic status, much of the firm’s extensive body of work has remained largely unknown. The book provides an overview of the diverse architectural production of the Basel-based office, which was active from 1945 to 1995 and responsible for thousands of projects. It explores the history of the practice, highlights the wide range of its architectural output, and reflects on aspects of media representation and self-promotion. In addition, the publication discusses the architectural and historical significance of Suter + Suter’s work, particularly in relation to current debates on embodied energy and sustainable transformation.
