The end of the Iran-Iraq War in 1988 gave Iranian photojournalist Kaveh Kazemi the opportunity to explore another genre of photography and distance himself from the aftermath of the 1979 revolution, politics, and military conflict. At the same time, the new Islamist government decided to revoke his press accreditation, which was actually a blessing in disguise. Kazemi turned to a personal project of photographing prominent and influential figures from Iran’s literati. This collection consists of 60 portraits of artists and intellectuals, all photographed in their domestic or work places. It is both a tribute to those portrayed and a reflection of Kazemi’s transition during an emotional period.
