‘We have learned to distrust images’ brings together photographs and collages made from the same instinct: extracting fragments from the world and letting them form unstable relationships with one another. Long before collage entered the practice, the camera was already cutting reality apart – isolating a gesture, a face disappearing into darkness, two unrelated forms suddenly appearing linked. The collage made visible a way of seeing that was already there. Francesco produces images that resist certainty – pictures that look constructed when they are real, and real when they are constructed. An uncertainty that mirrors how we relate to images today.
