Marking thirty years of Catani’s cinematic practice, the book documents the creation of Il burattino e la balena (2024), presented at the Venice Biennale – Orizzonti and recognized in the Academy Awards selection process. Trained in Urbino, Catani has developed a distinctive analogue animation method based on thousands of hand-drawn, multilayered images. Inspired by Collodi, the film explores resistance and individuality through a puppet rejecting imposed norms. The volume also includes preparatory sketches and a QR code linking to the complete film.
