Rotterdam-based artist Anouk Griffioen considers drawing and photography equally important in her work, but she approaches them differently. When taking pictures, she is not necessarily looking for the perfect image, but instead seeks to capture the situation in search of atmosphere of the moment. In other situations, she feels that drawing would be more suitable, and so the photography takes on a documentary character with dozens of pictures – an archive for later. This first extensive monograph on Griffioen’s work appears alongside her first solo museum exhibition at the Kröller-Müller Museum in the Netherlands, featuring numerous photographs and large-scale drawings.
