Over the past few decades, academic research has made significant strides in untangling the narrative complexities that shape the histories of major global cities. Artistic and architectural circles have increasingly challenged imperialistic and hegemonic historical discourses, bringing to light new perspectives and archives that have long been excluded from mainstream histories. These include the stories of migrants, colonisation, and underrepresented communities and ecosystems. While efforts to reconstruct a more inclusive and diverse history have gained momentum in large cities, medium-sized cities have yet to receive the same level of attention. What, then, is the starting point for uncovering the diverse histories of these cities? What collections exist outside traditional institutions? How can artistic and spatial practices help reveal hidden archives and collections, offering novel insights into the overlooked legacies of smaller cities?
