After the Second World War, Milan rebuilt itself around two symbolic landmarks: BBPR’s Torre Velasca and Gio Ponti’s Pirelli skyscraper. A modern city rapidly emerged, driven by the expansion of the metro network and the reconstruction of bombed neighbourhoods. Modernisation also transformed the city’s train stations, used daily by suburban workers. This period marked the golden age of Milanese architecture, shaped by figures such as Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Vico Magistretti, Luigi Moretti and Vittoriano Viganò, whose designs remain influential today. Photographer Paolo Monti documented this transformation, capturing both the city’s evolving identity and the refined details of its architecture carefully.
