This publication documents the making of and inspiration behind Sharon Lockhart’s film ‘Rudzienko’ (2016), which involved a group of young women in a Polish youth centre for socio-therapy. Over the course of three summers, Lockhart, together with movement therapists, philosophers, theatre directors, and pedagogues, conducted a series of generative workshops with the girls to write and choreograph scenes, inviting them to explore their autonomy and self-expression. The outcome of the collaboration is a 40-minute film which explores the emotions of girls labelled difficult or unmanageable. The book includes previously unpublished photographs and research materials.
