At the end of the War, Jean Prouvé was invited by the Ministry of Reconstruction to design moveable pavilions as temporary housing for those made homeless by the War in eastern France. Fine-tuning his already patented axial portal frame system, he responded to the urgency of the situation with a rapid, economical and adaptable solution. The temporary nature of the project gave him a chance to explore an industrial process that would be able to be made permanent.
