Yoon Heechang - Sand River Work - Setouchi For Guntu

Publisher Ryuryudo

Idea Code 19453

Yoon Heechang, who grew up in a port town by the Seto Inland Sea, travelled around this large body of water in Japan to collect sand for the series of delicately hued paintings presented in this book. Using pigments made from the sand, he depicts the surrounding Setouchi landscape. The title ‘Sand River’ refers to “the flow of sand” and reflects the artist’s respect for the working of humans and nature, as well as for the flow and accumulation of time. ‘Setouchi’ is part of a broader impulse in his body of work, which has taken him to various rivers throughout Japan since 2012. At each, he depicts riverside places and landscapes using pigment made from the local sands.
