Wood is Bernardo Bader's primary material, less out of personal preference than due to the constraints of the remote area at the foot of the Austrian Alps where he lives and practices. With it, he creates warm, enveloping spaces that evoke both vernacular heritage and a sense of community. It is at this confluence of craftsmanship and construction that the five projects detailed by Arquitectura Viva are situated. Meanwhile, the issue's feature includes three museums that have recently opened in historic buildings: the new Cartier Foundation, which Ateliers Jean Nouvel has placed in the heart of Paris; the Fenix Museum, which MAD Architects has adapted from port warehouses in Rotterdam; and the Siyadi Museum, with which Anne Holtrop breathes new life into a stately residence in Muharraq, Bahrain.
