Rice University architect and professor Jesús Vasallo has become a key voice in debates on architectural realism. This text adapts the interview that Jimmy Bullis and Pouya Khadem conducted for PLAT, the magazine published by Rice University students. The term “style” has become outdated for contemporary practice because it implies an obsolete approach. But this does not mean that internal coherence is unnecessary. All architectural practice must be consistent because it is part of a broader field of cultural production.
