This notebook reproduces watercolours of fungi by the self-taught mycologist M. F. Lewis, about whom little is known. The illustrations are taken from 'Fungi Collected in Shropshire and Other Neighbourhoods' (3 volumes, 1860–1902), a collection of around one hundred plates showcasing the vast variety of specimens from her home region in the West Midlands. Each specimen is carefully identified, catalogued, and depicted with both artistic skill and scientific accuracy.
