Screenwriter Kuniko Mukoda (1929–1981) was a pioneer of the family drama in Japan. ‘Like Asura’ (1979–1980), arguably her greatest masterpiece, was brought back to life in the modern day through the talents of director Hirokazu Kore-eda as the series ‘Asura’. The story captures the evolving emotional lives of four sisters and their family. This publication consists of stills that photographer and cinematographer Mikiya Takimoto shot during his work on the show. From the shifting countenances of the sisters to sets and backgrounds that draw audiences instantly back in time to 1979, the images are both poignant and captivating. The book is designed by Kaoru Kasai.
