‘Writings’ is a specially commissioned artist’s book of previously unpublished work by Israeli photographer and video artist Michal Rovner. “Writings fascinate me. The gesture, the visual language, the formality of rows, spaces, columns, the rhythm, the pace, especially when it seems unclear, unresolved, non-deciphered, the erasure, the absence of information, the residue of time.” The book contains very few actual words; instead, its pages are filled with Rovner’s characteristic typographic human figures in motion, appearing only to disappear, indiscernible from a distance. She offers us an enigmatic testament seemingly written in a language that has yet to be deciphered.
