This publication was produced as the visual and textual compendium to the exhibition project from which it takes its name, shown at De Hallen Haarlem (Netherlands) from 23 September to 4 December 2011. The project begins with an artwork by the renowned French-American artist and sculptor Louise Bourgeois, “using it as a lens through which to scrutinise a selection of contemporary artworks.” Highly associative, the group exhibition illuminates overlapping similarities in lieu of an essential common feature, and comprises a range of media, from paintings and photographs to video installations and found objects.
