Beatrice Cussol: Rude Girls
Publisher Art And Theory Publishing
Idea Code 13509
French artist Béatrice Cussol belongs to the generation of feminist artists that came to prominence in the 1990s. Her exquisite and delicate application of paint in softly glowing, vibrant hues serves to elevate the fantastical nature of her subjects. She evokes an oneiric realm in which figures dissolve into one another, trading voices and identities in the process. Set against white backgrounds, these surreally formed women and creatures appear as unabashed paragons of the female type, brimming with vitality and engaged in mythical narratives. In addition to many works and studio photos, essays by Katy Deepwell and Sophie Allgårdh expound on the nature of Cussol’s art.
