Maan Limburg - The Lost World
The first photobook by Dutch photographer Maan Limburg, ‘The Lost World’ is about encounters with places, not humans. Travelling through Japan, Limburg became enamoured with one magical, desolate place after another. Intimate photographs capture a sense of timelessness, melancholy, and secret beauty, but also highlight the country’s surplus of buildings. From deteriorating interior spaces, peeling facades, and dusty electronics to forgotten corners slowly embraced by nature, these places are ignored by those who live around them. Most can be found in rural areas where the population steadily dwindles, all while the real estate market in urban areas seems nothing short of insatiable.
