In 'La Nonpareille', Batia Suter turns her gaze to an archive of glass slides from the TU Delft Library. Originally used between 1900 and 1960 for lectures in Mechanical Technology, these heavily handled and visibly worn plates document machines, industrial materials, and production processes at a moment of growing mechanisation. Suter reworks this informative material into a visual reflection on the entanglement of humans and machines — and how technology reshapes perception, labour, and everyday life. Many compositions in the book consist of layered montages, in which multiple images are overlaid to create new, morphed forms and associations. The book expands upon Suter's site-specific installation at TU Delft in 2025, where 192 slides were presented just outside the library’s entrance, accompanied by two monumental prints applied to its sliding glass doors.
