Paula Rego and Adriana Varejão. Between Your Teeth accompanies the exhibition at CAM – Gulbenkian in Lisbon, highlighting connections between the work of Paula Rego and Adriana Varejão. Curated by Varejão, Helena de Freitas, and Victor Gorgulho, the show features nearly 80 works across thirteen thematic rooms. A curatorial conversation anchors the catalogue, alongside essays by Raphael Fonseca and Elena Crippa that explore shared themes of patriarchy, colonialism, and oppression. The title, drawn from a 1974 poem by Hilda Hilst, reflects the artists’ critical engagement with power and violence. This marks their first joint exhibition in Portugal, building on a previous collaboration in Rio de Janeiro.
