Adding to the history of art inspired by found objects are Richard Dawson’s flower works. The origins of these works were visits to an East London street market, where Dawson noticed the myriad discarded blooms that comprise much of the market’s detritus after closing, many trodden down onto the road and pavement. Intrigued, he sought to recreate them as images by using a scanner. As a result, no cameras, film, or photo development were part of the production of these images. It is a kind of technological reproduction which is unusually faithful, capturing the fine detail of the distressed yet still stunning flora and tapping into the history of botany as well as Victorian arts and crafts.
