Painting is everywhere: in an advertising logo, printed on the pages of a magazine, between the serifs of a typeface, in a signature or in a fabric pattern... At least, that is how artist Camila Oliveira Fairclough sees it. She has made the status of the subject in painting and the recurrence of motifs a central theme of her work. The Brazilian artist finds inspiration in everyday life: by reappropriating some patterns such as animal figures, signatures, children’s names, or quotes spoken by a yoga teacher, Fairclough shifts the subject to transform it into a concrete and malleable form. Words, letters, and signs thus become graphic elements and shapes, just like geometric forms and colors in a composition. Her works, whether painted or printed, refer to the history of abstraction, ready-made art, Brazilian concrete and visual poetry, as well as Pop Art. This first monograph presents a wide range of pieces created between 2014 and 2024. These are accompanied by two texts that highlight her work, written by art and graphic design historian Victor Guégan and independent curator Jill Gasparina.
