Afrosonica is a book born from a collective research initiative and exhibition, developed in collaboration with the Museum of Ethnography in Geneva. It offers a rich reflection on African and Afro-diasporic sound, bringing together artists, scholars, and musicians to challenge Western-centric narratives in museology and ethnomusicology. Through essays, conversations, photographs, and artworks, the book explores inclusive, reimagined ways of connecting heritage, technology, and futurism. It invites readers to investigate the global traces of Afro-diasporic musical phenomena, encouraging a critical rethinking of how we interpret these influences through decentralised and power-aware perspectives. Published to accompany the exhibition of the same name at the Museum of Ethnography in Geneva (MEG), Afrosonica will be on view from 16 May 2025 to 4 January 2026.
