Helena Schaetzle 9645 Kilometres Of Memories
The silence of their fathers and grandfathers is a collective experience of post-war generations. Photographer Helena Schätzle has shared this experience, and took it as a starting point for an unusual project. Following her grandfather's tracks, she travelled 9645 kilometres across Eastern Europe. Along the way, she met people who were there at the time and who shared their memories with her: about displacement, death, and survival; about fleeing, persevering, and getting by. Combined with Helena Schätzle's photographs, these memories form a moving narrative.
