Roots anchor trees in the soil and supply vital nutrients, forming underground networks through which plants communicate. We humans, too, are rooted in many ways – socially, culturally, ecologically – an analogy at the heart of ‘Rooted and Branched’. The exhibition catalogue presents six artistic positions that explore questions of belonging, interconnectedness, and the interweaving of humans and the world. The works by artists such as Olga Grotova, Krištof Kintera, Jenny Michel, and Diana Scherer address family roots, complex ramifications in knowledge systems, and interactions between natural and cultural processes, but also the individual’s place within these structures.
