Photographed from 2007 to 2012, during the five years she lived in New York, ‘Life Studies’ is a series of snapshots of Aya Fujioka’s daily experiences, revisited after many years and now edited into a cohesive work. Similar to her photobook ‘Comment te dire adieu’ (2004), produced during her journeys in Europe, it is filled with spontaneous yet pensive fragments of her daily life, mirroring Fujioka’s own development, inner struggles, and conflicts through her choice of subjects. Beginning with views of New York’s streets through the eyes of a new arrival, the photographs gradually become more intimate, more specific, and more complex as she settles into her surroundings.
