In 2005, Peles Duo launched their collaboration with an illegal bar in Frankfurt’s red-light district, wallpapered with A3 copies of a room from Romania’s 19th-century Peleș Castle. A historicist monument where each room mimics a different style, the castle prefigures postmodernism by over a century. This act of replication defines their practice. Three-dimensional works become two-dimensional source material, with process itself becoming the artwork. For Peles Duo, copying matters more than the copy, as they dismantle and reshape meanings to question how time and culture transform places, objects, and identities.
