‘Dhaka Totem’ is a subjective guide to the city of Dhaka, co-published by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and Altrim Publishers in Barcelona. The book features various essays and photographic contributions produced by a group of local and international academics, architects, planners, and artists. These examine everything from Dhaka’s traffic, public space, and garbage, to its dense urban reality, borders and limits, people, and resilience. It begins by recounting a fictional meeting in which Le Corbusier, exhausted from his Chandigarh project, and Louis Kahn, designer of the monumental Parliament of Bangladesh, travel to Dhaka.
