Throughout his long career, Leonard Rickhard developed a singular and unmistakable visual language. Marking over five decades of work, his 2024 retrospective at Astrup Fearnley Museet highlighted the persistence and rigor with which he pursued painting into a sixth decade. From the mid-1970s onward, Rickhard repeatedly revisited motifs such as the bird cabinet, night painter, model table, birch forest, and deserted barracks.
