Angela Ferreira Revolutionary Traces
Idea Code 15018
Buildings and structures play a major role in the work of Ângela Ferreira. They can be read as political contexts, and the various factors and issues they encompass can be a meaningful, basic premise for the production of contemporary art. This project revolves around Portugal’s SAAL Brigades, instituted in 1974 as a practical instrument to address the massive demand for housing, and involving participation and direct action by residents. Ferreira also investigates Álvaro Siza Vieira’s work for Schilderswijk in The Hague, the Netherlands, and focuses on the international crossover spurred by Dutch politician Adri Duivesteijn’s visit to Porto to understand how SAAL operated.
