Barends & Pijnappel - Photo Collection
In 1975 graphic designer Henrik Barends purchased his first photo: White Door, a hand-coloured silver print by Paul de Nooijer. At the time he could not imagine that this purchase turned out to be the first one in a long series to become the extensive Barends & Pijnappel Photo Collection. The book includes a selection of over 500 photos from the collection, in which phantasy, imagination, and individuality take the lead, in the spirit of the art criticism of Charles Baudelaire. ‘What these pictures all have in common is that they depict something that wants to be seen. We can read and understand the photos of the collection as scenes that play mainly inside someone’s mind and do not always have an existence in the outside world’, says Eric Min in his introduction.
