Res Nullius is the third artist book by Wim Cuyvers, published by MASEREEL – Centre for Contemporary Art (Kasterlee, Belgium). It reflects on Le Montavoix, a terrain Cuyvers has been working on—both literally and conceptually—for nearly twenty years. The book brings together 200 landscape photographs, an axonometric drawing, and accompanying texts through which Cuyvers reaffirms his view of architecture as a practice that leads us outside, rather than enclosing us within. But much has changed: climate change is transforming the land, ecological forest management demands a new approach, and in a hyperconnected world, we are always “inside.” With this book, Cuyvers signals the end of architecture as he once defined it—Le Montavoix becomes a danse macabre for the dying art of space.
