The Porteurs series (2020), created during Béatrice Balcou’s residency at CIRVA in Marseille, consists of glass batons combining fluted, kaleidoscopic segments with smooth tips that magnify their contents - residues from other artworks, such as iron oxide from an ancient mirror or terracotta fragments from a Nok sculpture. Meant to be passed hand to hand, these objects act as witnesses, instruments of protest, or tools for speech. Outside institutional settings, they unfold in unannounced encounters, offering a poetic meditation on shared responsibility, presence, and attention.
