Yuriko Sasaoka’s works defy conventional categorisation. Created using video, they have an extraordinary visual impact and feature slightly eerie yet comical characters, sometimes played by Sasaoka herself or created by synthesising parts of her face or body. The characters sing songs she has composed, with eccentric lyrics and melodies expressing messages about love and family. This book appears with a solo exhibition by the artist at the Shiga Prefectural Museum of Art. Featuring works ranging from her earliest videos to recent pieces, it includes song lyrics, insightful analysis, and a conversation between Sasaoka and manga artist Akiko Higashimura.
