Published for the exhibition Margherita Manzelli. Le Signorine, this catalogue traces over three decades of the artist’s poetic and painterly practice. Bringing together paintings from the 1990s to today, as well as previously unseen drawings and works created specifically for the show -including one inspired by Prato’s Cathedral of Santo Stefano - it highlights the conversation between Manzelli’s vision and its setting. The title refers to the enigmatic female figures that populate her work: independent, untimely presences whose ambiguous yet insistent stance resists conventional roles. Often nude or semi-nude, they appear suspended in abstract fields marked by geometric or ornamental rhythms.
