This monograph by visual artist Lex ter Braak was inspired by a chest of drawers in his studio in Haarlem. Inside the chest is a collection of works – Polaroids, drawings, paintings, works on paper, textiles, and torn or shredded fragments – all waiting for the moment when the drawer is opened. For the book, the artist wrote a text for each drawer. Ter Braak believes nothing in the world exists in isolation – everything is interconnected, regardless of how much we attempt to organise reality through division, distinction, and systems. This urge towards organisation is therefore a human construct that obscures the natural web of connections from our perception and understanding.
